• International crude oil futures settled sharply higher, surging over 4%.

 WTI July crude oil rose 4.28%, Brent August crude oil rose 4.4%.

• On June 17, Mysteel's import iron ore indices:

 62% Australian Fines forward spot index at 92.05 USD/dmt, down 1.55; 65% Brazilian Fines forward spot index at 102.15 USD/dmt, down 1.15; 58% High-Alumina Fines forward spot index at 79 USD/dmt, down 0.85.

• Following Israel's surprise attack on Iran, disturbing signs emerge in one of the world's largest shipping arteries.

 Some shipowners are starting to voluntarily avoid the strategic Strait of Hormuz, causing freight rates to surge by 24%.

• June 9 - June 15:

• China raises domestic refined oil product retail prices for the 5th time this year.

 According to the NDRC, starting 24:00 June 17, gasoline and diesel prices increased by 260 yuan and 255 yuan per ton, respectively.

• Ministry of Natural Resources and China Meteorological Administration jointly issue a geological disaster risk warning (Yellow Alert).

 From 20:00 June 17 to 20:00 June 18, areas at higher risk include northern and southwestern Guangdong; northern, eastern, and southern Guangxi; northeastern Sichuan; southern Yunnan; southeastern Tibet; southern Shaanxi; and eastern and southern Gansu.

• Bank of Japan keeps benchmark interest rate unchanged at 0.5%

 China's Ministry of Foreign Affairs and relevant embassies/consulates, in coordination with other departments, are making every effort to protect the safety of Chinese citizens in Iran and Israel, swiftly organizing their evacuation.

• On June 17:

 National main port iron ore transactions totaled 996,000 tons, up 2.4% d-o-d. Construction steel transactions by 237 mainstream traders totaled 92,500 tons, down 16.1% d-o-d.

• June 9 - June 15:

 Total iron ore inventory at seven major Australian and Brazilian ports stood at 12.262 million tons, down 259,000 tons w-o-w. Inventory has declined for three consecutive periods, with absolute levels in the medium-to-low range for Q2.

• As of June 16:

 Imported iron ore inventory at 47 Chinese ports totaled 144.0234 million tons, down 249,900 tons from the previous Monday. Inventory at 45 ports totaled 138.8064 million tons, up 337,000 tons w-o-w.

• On June 17:

 Average cost for construction steel at 76 independent electric arc furnace (EAF) steel mills was 3,262 yuan/ton, up 2 yuan/ton d-o-d. Average profit loss was 129 yuan/ton, with off-peak electricity profit loss at 26 yuan/ton.

• Guiyang Changle's EAF and supporting rolling mill undergo maintenance shutdown

, with production planned to resume by month-end, impacting daily construction steel output by 1,000 tons.

• On June 15:

 The FCL unit of the TISCO high-end cold-rolled grain-oriented silicon steel project (Phase II), designed and supplied by WISDRI, successfully ignited, entering the baking stage.

• On June 16:

 Baowu JFY's offline finishing line #4 revamp project completed its hot commissioning trial run. This line can produce various high-quality, high-value-added special steel products with diameters ranging from 20mm to 40mm, with a monthly capacity exceeding 10,000 tons.

• On June 17:

 Shandong Xuxiang New Material Co., Ltd. successfully rolled the first coil on its 1280mm six-high single-stand reversible cold rolling mill, entering the trial production stage ahead of schedule.

• On June 16:

 Vale obtained the preliminary license for the Bacaba copper project. Located in Canaã dos Carajás, Pará state, Brazil, the project is expected to contribute an average of approximately 50,000 tons of copper per year over its 8-year mine life.

• The European Commission proposed legislation

 for the EU to phase out direct and indirect imports of Russian pipeline gas (PNG) and liquefied natural gas (LNG) by the end of 2027, while also completely halting imports of Russian oil.
